Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research

Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research by Diane De Anda, Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research books, The purpose of this book is to open a discourse on current and pertinent issues related to multicultural populations by the most noted experts and researchers in the field. This book offers an overview of the literature on multicultural issues and assesses its approach to the following issues: the stereotypic assumptions with regard to filial piety and Asian American populations, substance abuse within the Latino community, multicultural youth and elders, refugee and immigrant populations as well as vulnerable populations such as victims of political and sexual exploitation. The aim is to provide a forum for educators in the field to present views regarding important issues for which there is no other venue. They are important for educators, practitioners, and students in the field to consider and discuss. These will serve as springboards for such discussion. Although references will be cited when appropriate, these will be position papers rather than research papers or reviews of the literature. This book was based on a special issue of the Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity in Social Work.

Women And Aging International

Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research by Lee Ann Mjelde-Mossey, Women And Aging International Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Women And Aging International books, According to a recent population report by the United Nations, "in most countries, older women greatly outnumber older men. In many cases, the difference is so large that the concerns of the older population should in fact be viewed primarily as the concerns of older women." Internationally, the concerns of older women emanate from the unique gendered challenges they experience because they are more likely to be widowed, poor, have lower educational attainment, fewer skills, restricted inheritance and land ownership, and have fewer sexual rights. To add to this negative scenario, ageist and sexist attitudes in both developed and developing societies throughout the world tend to categorize older women as non-contributing burdens even though they are in fact often highly productive and bear most of the burdens of family caregiving responsibilities. In spite of their majority status and list of concerns, older women are less likely to be equally represented in the literature on aging. This edited book introduces the reader to the diversity, challenges and contributions of older women in several of the major regions of the world. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity in Social Work.

East Of East

Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research by Romeo Guzmán, East Of East Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download East Of East books, East of East: The Making of Greater El Monte, is an edited collection of thirty-one essays that trace the experience of a California community over three centuries, from eighteenth-century Spanish colonization to twenty-first century globalization. Employing traditional historical scholarship, oral history, creative nonfiction and original art, the book provides a radical new history of El Monte and South El Monte, showing how interdisciplinary and community-engaged scholarship can break new ground in public history. East of East tells stories that have been excluded from dominant historical narratives—stories that long survived only in the popular memory of residents, as well as narratives that have been almost completely buried and all but forgotten. Its cast of characters includes white vigilantes, Mexican anarchists, Japanese farmers, labor organizers, civil rights pioneers, and punk rockers, as well as the ordinary and unnamed youth who generated a vibrant local culture at dances and dive bars.

Promoting Qualitative Research Methods For Critical Reflection And Change

Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research by Wang, Viktor, Promoting Qualitative Research Methods For Critical Reflection And Change Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Promoting Qualitative Research Methods For Critical Reflection And Change books, The philosophical foundation of emancipatory knowledge lies in critical theory. In this paradigm, instrumental and communicative knowledge are not rejected but are limited. If we do not question current scientific and social theories and accepted truths, we may never realize how we are constrained by their inevitable distortions and errors. Without the possibility of critical questioning of ourselves and our beliefs, such constraining knowledge can be accepted by entire cultures. The research paradigm that is relevant for constructing this kind of knowledge is the critical paradigm. Data are always qualitative and have specific methods of research. Quantitative research unquestionably has a place and is fundamental to scientific advances, but qualitative research delves into what it is to be human. Through qualitative research, we gain insight into communicative knowledge, its rich nature, and the mechanisms by which communicative knowledge is formed and interpreted. Qualitative research enables the necessary exploration and critical analysis of social systems and uncovers and facilitates critical reflections on the inevitable assumptions, which shape social behavior and interaction, thereby stimulating and empowering change. Promoting Qualitative Research Methods for Critical Reflection and Change provides readers with a comprehensive array of qualitative research methods, which can be implemented in a variety of contexts for a variety of purposes. The chapters explore the impact, uses, and methodologies for qualitative research across various fields of research. This book is ideal for practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the use of qualitative research methods.

Download Handbook For Teacher Educators books, As a teacher educator you are (or were) identified as a credible practitioner in your given community of practice. As an early career teacher educator, there is an assumption that the transition from your successful previous position, in a related community of practice, to that of an academic teacher educator will occur through a process of osmosis or instinctive learning in situ. Handbook for Teacher Educators contains chapters written by experienced international teacher educators who draw on their experience and expertise to help early career teacher educators prepare for some of the demands, challenges and rewards. The chapters discuss some of the habits intrinsic to the profession and provide an insight into procedures and practices that are compatible with core professional expectations and professional values. In essence, if you are an early career teacher educator, what is useful to know in order to develop an identity as a knowledgeable skilled teacher educator?

Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research by Lígia Ferro, Arts And Cultural Education In A World Of Diversity Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Arts And Cultural Education In A World Of Diversity books, This volume gathers, analyses, discusses and evaluates results of current research on arts and cultural education in Europe, focusing on the challenges of cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is an increasingly characteristic feature of contemporary societies. Groups with different ethnic, social or cultural backgrounds coexist, interact and merge. The challenges of cultural diversity – its innovative potential as well as tensions and conflicts – are reflected in transnational discourses on education, culture, democracy, and citizenship. Transcultural approaches, multicultural education, and intercultural learning are key concepts. The same challenges are reflected in arts and cultural education within and outside schools, in teachers’ and artists’ training, cultural and educational policies, and research. The thirteen chapters in this book report on nine countries represented in the European Network of Observatories in the Field of Arts and Cultural Education (ENO). They showcase good practices in research and teaching, foster the exchange of experiences, stimulate researchers and stakeholders and give insights into their professional practices.

Where Music Helps Community Music Therapy In Action And Reflection

Culturally Diverse Populations Reflections From Pioneers In Education And Research by Cochavit Elefant, Where Music Helps Community Music Therapy In Action And Reflection Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Where Music Helps Community Music Therapy In Action And Reflection books, This book explores how people may use music in ways that are helpful for them, especially in relation to a sense of wellbeing, belonging and participation. The central premise for the study is that help is not a decontextualized effect that music produces. The book contributes to the current discourse on music, culture and society and it is developed in dialogue with related areas of study, such as music sociology, ethnomusicology, community psychology and health promotion. Where Music Helps describes the emerging movement that has been labelled Community Music Therapy, and it presents ethnographically informed case studies of eight music projects (localized in England, Israel, Norway, and South Africa). The various chapters of the book portray "music's help" in action within a broad range of contexts; with individuals, groups and communities – all of whom have been challenged by illness or disability, social and cultural disadvantage or injustice. Music and musicing has helped these people find their voice (literally and metaphorically); to be welcomed and to welcome, to be accepted and to accept, to be together in different and better ways, to project alternative messages about themselves or their community and to connect with others beyond their immediate environment. The overriding theme that is explored is how music comes to afford things in concert with its environments, which may suggest a way of accounting for the role of music in music therapy without reducing music to a secondary role in relation to the "therapeutic," that is, being "just" a symbol of psychological states, a stimulus, or a text reflecting socio-cultural content.
