Poems Of Francis Thompson Book Description

by Francis Thompson, Poems Of Francis Thompson Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Poems Of Francis Thompson books, During the research for her biography of Francis Thompson, Between Heaven and Charing Cross it became clear to Brigid Boardman that a new edition of his poetry was essential for a full recognition of the range and variety of his work. He remains best known for his great poem The Hound of Heaven but his work as a whole has never been properly presented. All previous editions include the many alterations and deletions that were made to Thompson’s work posthumously by Wilfrid Meynell for the edition of 1913. Meynell’s aim was to present the poetry in a strictly orthodox Catholic light in a period when fears about Modernism influenced the Church’s understanding of literature. These anxieties have not served the poetry well. Thompson’s aim was ‘to be the poet of the return to God’ and his work expresses the divine presence that he believed permeated all aspects of life. This edition finally restores an important English poet to the readers that he so deserves.

The M Lodies Of Francis Poulenc Book Description

by Alissa Deeter, The M Lodies Of Francis Poulenc Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The M Lodies Of Francis Poulenc books, An acknowledged master of mélodie, Francis Poulenc’s prolific song œuvre exceeds the collections of all other French composers who wrote in this genre. Yet despite Poulenc’s prolific output and its significance to art song repertoire, few volumes dedicated to study of Poulenc’s works have appeared in print. This text offers a theory on the marginalized popularity of Poulenc’s songs and strategies for their study that can assist performers in their appreciation and interpretation of his work. The Mélodies of Francis Poulenc is the first work to contain the complete collection of Poulenc’s song compositions, providing IPA transcriptions and word-for-word translations in an easy reference format. Also included are the highly regarded poetic translations of Winifred Radford. In their introduction to the songs, Deeter and Peavler formulate a methodology for the proper interpretation and study of the Poulenc’s works. Finally, this work features a musical terms index, select discography of downloadable sound files, and a song title index. Teachers of singing, vocal coaches, professional singers, accompanists, and students of art song will find the The Mélodies of Francis Poulenc an invaluable tool for the study and instruction of Poulenc’s songs.

The Political Philosophy Of Francis Bacon Book Description

by Tom van Malssen, The Political Philosophy Of Francis Bacon Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Political Philosophy Of Francis Bacon books, An ambitious and radically original reading of philosopher Francis Bacon. Comprehensive in its ambitions and meticulous in its approach, The Political Philosophy of Francis Bacon is a new and unique interpretation of one of early modernity’s more important thinkers. Whereas recent works on Bacon tend to confine themselves either to interpreting his historical context or to considering the founder of Baconianism from the perspective of one work in particular or the history of science in general, Tom van Malssen argues, through detailed and provocative interpretations of a number of Baconian writings, that the unity of Bacon’s thought can only be revealed if these writings are read in historical and philosophical conjunction as well as on the assumption that they are all somehow part of the whole of Bacon’s political philosophy. In addition to restoring Bacon to the pantheon of great philosophers, van Malssen demonstrates that a proper understanding of Bacon’s political philosophy contributes significantly to our understanding of the nature of philanthropic science, the modern project, and ultimately ourselves. “This book will become an enduring pillar of our understanding of Bacon’s philosophy. The scholarship and mastery of the historical sources, both philosophic and Biblical, are brilliant.” — Jerry Weinberger, author of Science, Faith, and Politics: Francis Bacon and the Utopian Roots of the Modern Age: A Commentary on Bacon’s Advancement of Learning “The scholarship of Bacon in this book is masterful. It should transform and deepen the field, the ‘field’ being the nature and history of the philosophic life. This is arguably the most thoughtful, penetrating, and ultimately revealing book on Bacon ever written.” — Svetozar Minkov, author of Francis Bacon’s “Inquiry Touching Human Nature”: Virtue, Philosophy, and the Relief of Man’s Estate
