String Theory In Curved Space Times Book Description

by N Sánchez, String Theory In Curved Space Times Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download String Theory In Curved Space Times books, The main goal and impact of modern string theory is to provide a consistent quantum theory of gravity. This book provides an updated collection of original new developments and fundamental research in string theory in connection with gravity and physics at the Planck energy scale. Topics treated in this volume by pioneering researchers in the field include: classical and quantum string dynamics in strong gravitational fields, space-time singularities, black holes and cosmological backgrounds; particle and string scattering at the Planck energy scale; string cosmology and its observational consequences; the new features of multistrings and of quantum particle transmutation for strings in curved spacetimes. The book deals with (i) the several new methods developed to solve the highly nonlinear string dynamics in curved spactimes: approximative perturbative methods, asymptotic expansions, exact local expansions and exact global (over the whole world sheet) string solitonic solutions, (ii) the string energy momentum tensor and the equation of state for the string matter, the stretching of the string size in spacetimes with event horizons and near spacetime singularities, (iii) the canonical and semiclassical quantization of strings in curved spacetimes and the physical effects found for: the mass spectrum, structure of levels, scattering amplitudes, number operator and particle transmutation. 100 Years Of Relativity Book Description

by Abhay Ashtekar, 100 Years Of Relativity Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download 100 Years Of Relativity books, Thanks to Einstein''s relativity theories, our notions of space and time underwent profound revisions about a 100 years ago. The resulting interplay between geometry and physics has dominated all of fundamental physics since then. This volume contains contributions from leading researchers, worldwide, who have thought deeply about the nature and consequences of this interplay. The articles take a long-range view of the subject and distill the most important advances in broad terms, making them easily accessible to non-specialists. The first part is devoted to a summary of how relativity theories were born (J Stachel). The second part discusses the most dramatic ramifications of general relativity, such as black holes (P Chrusciel and R Price), space-time singularities (H Nicolai and A Rendall), gravitational waves (P Laguna and P Saulson), the large scale structure of the cosmos (T Padmanabhan); experimental status of this theory (C Will) as well as its practical application to the GPS system (N Ashby). The last part looks beyond Einstein and provides glimpses into what is in store for us in the 21st century. Contributions here include summaries of radical changes in the notions of space and time that are emerging from quantum field theory in curved space-times (Ford), string theory (T Banks), loop quantum gravity (A Ashtekar), quantum cosmology (M Bojowald), discrete approaches (Dowker, Gambini and Pullin) and twistor theory (R Penrose).

Quantum Mechanics In Curved Space Time Book Description

by Jurgen Audretsch, Quantum Mechanics In Curved Space Time Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Quantum Mechanics In Curved Space Time books, Quantum mechanics and quantum field theory on one hand and Gravity as a theory of curved space-time on the other are the two great conc- tual schemes of modern theoretical physics. For many decades they have lived peacefully together for a simple reason: it was a coexistence wi- out much interaction. There has been the family of relativists and the other family of elementary particle physicists and both sides have been convinced that their problems have not very much to do with the problems of the respective other side. This was a situation which could not last forever, because the two theoretical schemes have a particular structural trait in common: their claim for totality and universality. Namely on one hand all physical theories have to be formulated in a quantum mechanical manner, and on the other hand gravity as curved space-time influences all processes and vice versa. It was therefore only a question of time that physically relevant domains of application would attract a general int- est, which demand a combined application of both theoretical schemes. But it is immediately obvious that such an application of both schemes is - possible if the schemes are taken as they are. Something new is needed which reconciles gravity and quantum mechanics. During the last two de- des we are now doing the first steps towards this more general theory and we are confronted with fundamental difficulties.

Classical Measurements In Curved Space Times Book Description

by Fernando de Felice, Classical Measurements In Curved Space Times Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Classical Measurements In Curved Space Times books, The theory of relativity describes the laws of physics in a given space-time. However, a physical theory must provide observational predictions expressed in terms of measurements, which are the outcome of practical experiments and observations. Ideal for readers with a mathematical background and a basic knowledge of relativity, this book will help readers understand the physics behind the mathematical formalism of the theory of relativity. It explores the informative power of the theory of relativity, and highlights its uses in space physics, astrophysics and cosmology. Readers are given the tools to pick out from the mathematical formalism those quantities that have physical meaning and which can therefore be the result of a measurement. The book considers the complications that arise through the interpretation of a measurement, which is dependent on the observer who performs it. Specific examples of this are given to highlight the awkwardness of the problem.

String Gravity And Physics At The Planck Energy Scale Book Description

by Norma G. Sànchez, String Gravity And Physics At The Planck Energy Scale Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download String Gravity And Physics At The Planck Energy Scale books, The contemporary trends in the quantum unification of all interactions including gravity motivate this Course. The main goal and impact of modern string theory is to provide a consistent quantum theory of gravity. This, Course is intended to provide an updated understanding of the last developments and current problems of string theory in connection with gravity and the physics at the Planck energy scale. It is also the aim of this Course to discuss fundamental problems of quantum gravity in the present-day context irrespective of strings or any other models. Emphasis is given to the mutual impact of string theory, gravity and cosmology, within a deep a well defined programme, which provides, in addition, a careful interdisciplinarity. Since the most relevant new physics provided by strings concerns the quantization of gravity, we must, at least, understand string quantization in curved space-times to start. Curved space-times, besides their evident relevance m classical gravitation, are also important at energies of the order of the Planck scale. At the Planck energy, gravitational interactions are at least as important as the rest and can not be neglected anymore. Special care is taken here to provide the grounds of the different lines of research in competition (not just only one approach); this provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the real state of the discipline, and to learn it in a critical way.

Complex Differential Geometry And Supermanifolds In Strings And Fields Book Description

by Petrus J.M. Bongaarts, Complex Differential Geometry And Supermanifolds In Strings And Fields Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Complex Differential Geometry And Supermanifolds In Strings And Fields books, This volume deals with one of the most active fields of research in mathematical physics: the use of geometric and topological methods in field theory. The emphasis in these proceedings is on complex differential geometry, in particular on Kähler manifolds, supermanifolds, and graded manifolds. From the point of view of physics the main topics were field theory, string theory and problems from elementary particle theory involving supersymmetry. The lectures show a remarkable unity of approach and are considerably related to each other. They should be of great value to researchers and graduate students.

Black Hole Physics Book Description

by De Sabbata Venzo, Black Hole Physics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Black Hole Physics books, The basic subjects and main topics covered by this book are: (1) Physics of Black Holes (classical and quantum); (2) Thermodynamics, entropy and internal dynamics; (3) Creation of particles and evaporation; (4) Mini black holes; (5) Quantum mechanics of black holes in curved spacetime; (6) The role of spin and torsion in the black hole physics; (7) Equilibrium geometry and membrane paradigm; (8) Black hole in string and superstring theory; (9) Strings, quantum gravity and black holes; (10) The problem of singularity; (11) Astrophysics of black holes; (12) Observational evidence of black holes. The book reveals the deep connection between gravitational, quantum and statistical physics and also the importance of black hole behaviour in the very early universe. An important new point discussed concerns the introduction of spin in the physics of black holes, showing its central role when correctly put into the Einstein equations through the geometric concept of torsion, with the new concept of a time-temperature uncertainty relation, minimal time, minimal entropy, quantization of entropy and the connection of black hole with wormholes. Besides theoretical aspects, the reader will also find observational evidence for black holes in active galactic nuclei, in binary X-ray sources and in supernova remnants. The book will thus interest physicists, astronomers, and astrophysicists at different levels of their career who specialize in classical properties, quantum processes, statistical thermodynamics, numerical collapse, observational evidence, general relativity and other related problems.

Flat And Curved Space Times Book Description

by George Francis Rayner Ellis, Flat And Curved Space Times Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Flat And Curved Space Times books, The present book explains special relativity and the basics of general relativity from a geometric viewpoint. Space-time geometry is emphasized throughout, and provides the basis of understanding of the special relativity effects of time dilation, length contraction, and the relativity of simultaneity. Bondi's K-calculus is introduced as a simple means of calculating the magnitudes of these effects, and leads to a derivation of the Lorentz transformation as a way of unifying these results. The invariant interval of flat space-time is generalised to that of curved space-times, and leads to an understanding of the basic properties of simple cosmological models and of the collapse of a star to form a black hole. The appendices enable the advanced student to master the application of four-tensors to the relativistic study of energy and momentum, and of electromagnetism. In addition, this new edition contains up-to-date information on black holes, gravitational collapse, and cosmology.
